i love live mesh

Mesh

i must of forgot just how much i missed live mesh. i had been developing live framework apps and had all my devices as members of the developer tech preview of mesh which currently does not support folder sync. since then, i went to other services like sugarsync and realized just how much live mesh brought to my life besides sync.

one key feature that live mesh has is the ability to sync across more than just 2 machines (this is a limit to the free version of sugarsync). this was the primary reason for going back to mesh. however, there are others. here are a few of my favorite things (i almost busted into sound of music):

  • sync across multiple machines (no limit on number of machines added to your mesh)
  • free 5gb of online storage (3 more than sugarsync’s free service) to access your mesh even if you are not on one of your devices. all you need is an internet connection to access your live desktop
  • works on mac too. share and sync files and folders with macs
  • add your windows phone to the mesh
  • support for accessing your mesh on iphone or other mobile devices (just go to http://m.mesh.com). yeah. it works like a champ
  • share folders with other people
  • remote access to your windows machines. i love this one and it works great!

my mesh devices

i am still trying to figure out how anyone with even just 2 machines can live without a proper file syncing tool. mesh has not only made my own files accessible, but also allows my team to share and collaborate on documents and presentations. brilliant!

if you are looking for a great way to sync your files across multiple machines and get access to some other great features, then go check out the live mesh beta.

s+s makes me feel all good inside

the “overnight success” video at the software + services site just makes me feel all good inside. i remember the days of launching “big deal” sites and worrying if they would hold up. how i would love to just simply be able to spin a dial and provision some more cloud love in the middle of a game of gears.

this video is my new best friend.

microsoft strata = azure

in case you were not paying attention, during the opening keynote at pdc ray ozzie announced our cloud services platform, azure services platform (formerly codenamed “strata”). i am super excited about this since i have been making the speaking tour on the windows live platform. azure takes this to a new level with a comprehensive development service, consistent programming model on-premises and in the cloud, a familiar development environment, and control and customizability. azure does all this and does this well.

windows azure is a component of the azure services platform that extends the windows environment to the cloud for developers who want service hosting, scalable storage, and automated service management of their software applications.

pay attention to more announcements from pdc to see where we are taking azure now and into the future.
