capital factory graduates startups
i have been all around lately checking out the hottest startups. i had the pleasure to attend the first capital factory demo day in austin and watch the outcome of some great ideas graduate to real businesses. after listening to the 5 companies (see below) pitch, i listened to both local and visiting angel and vc investors on a well moderated panel talk about the challenges and opportunities for investors and startups. really interesting questions and answers and i was glad i made the trip and represent bizspark. looking forward to next year.
the 5 capital factory graduating startups:
cubit planning – apparently it is a big pain in the ass for government agencies to build infrastructure projects including properly describing the impact on the environment through nepa documents. cubit planning makes that process so much easier.
famigo – famigo showed off how to build engaging casual games that an entire families can enjoy together. the real interesting part of the business is not necessarily the games but the api famigo has that enables developers to family enhance their games.
hourville – hourville created an online marketplace for local services to engage customers in an hourly manner. many focused on the similarity to craigslist but i actually think hourville raises the bar by eliminating the noise that some services like craigslist sometimes ends up being.
petsmd – what can i say. health information for pets and pet care resources. since the pet industry is a $45 billion dollar market, there is definitely room for petsmd to fit into the online space targeting pets.
sparefoot – loved this idea. basically, if you need to store some stuff, sparefoot can help. whether that means in someone’s garage or in a major public storage facility, sparefoot can help.
