a look back at 2009 and forward to 2010
this is not going to be one of those posts that talk about the 10 gadgets that defined a decade or the best tech triumph of 2009 but a peak into what i have been a part of this year and what i am looking forward to next.
2009 was filled with exciting adventures and anticlimactic events, both personally and professionally. so first, professionally. i embarked on a journey into the land of startups representing bizspark for microsoft in the central region of the united states and i have been on a whirlwind ride. i have met so many smart and talented people with incredible ideas. i have participated in many pitch, business plan, innovation, etc. competitions with so many incredible companies growing right here in the midwest. I am in awe with what i see and i am excited to work with some of these companies in the bizspark one program. check out some of the amazing bizspark companies here.
since i am part of what i think is the most innovative company in the business, i would be remiss not to mention some exciting announcements like bing, windows 7, zune hd, and all kinds of exciting advancements in other technologies.
then there is personally, or what i have of a personal life. i did make a commitment to myself at the beginning of last year to make more time for me. while i have done that to an extent, i can learn to do more. i have tried to make more time for my family which is the single most important thing in my life and that does bring me happiness. but what i realized is that i need to learn to take time for me too. i have learned to appreciate that over the past couple weeks i took off during the holidays. that i am going to work on.
also, as i mentioned in one of my tweets, 2010 will be a year of no resentment and no regret. this for me is a challenge. i just turned another year older yesterday and i still harbor resentment and regret. as many of my friends mentioned to me, it is definitely not worth it. this will be my biggest challenge of 2010.
i look forward to this year as i believe it will truly be a great one. i had an opportunity to tell my boss this the other day, in the words of isaac newton: “if i have seen farther than others, it is because i was standing on the shoulder of giants.” i surround myself with giants… and that has extended my gaze that much farther.
